Oggi vi presento un artista Mark Hewitt ceramista che terrà un corso di ceramica per tutti i livelli di apprendimento in Toscana, per la prima volta in Italia. A La Meridiana, un luogo incantevole nel cuore della Toscana.
La Meridiana è un’associazione culturale il cui obbiettivo è lo sviluppo dell’arte ceramica. E’ stata fondata nel 1981 da Pietro Elia Maddalena, inizialmente solo come scuola estiva. Con la crescita della sua reputazione è diventata il luogo privato per l’insegnamento della ceramica più importante in Italia.
Il grande e ben attrezzato laboratorio unito alla qualità dell’insegnamento offrono un’esperienza di studio intensa ed appagante. L’ambiente, con i suoi stupendi spazi esterni e l’atmosfera amichevole ne fanno anche una bella e indimenticabile vacanza.

Il Maestro Mark Hewitt, è nato a Stoke-on-Trent, in Inghilterra. E' stato apprendista di Michael Cardew e Picchiere Todd. Nel 1983 si è trasferito nel North Carolina, USA, dove è diventato famoso per la sua reinterpretazione in chiave contemporanea delle forme tradizionali del Nord Carolina. Le sue opere sono in molti musei, ha esposto ampiamente e la stampa ceramica ha scritto estensivamente di lui. Mark ha dimostrato al Festival Internazionale della Ceramica a Aberystwyth nel 2011, ed è Vice Presidente del Nord Carolina Pottery Center. www.hewittpottery.com

La Meridiana is a non-profit institution for the advancement of the ceramic arts. It has been founded in 1981 by Pietro Elia Maddalena. Started off as a summer school, thanks to the high standard of organization, teaching and facilities, it has become the most important private ceramic school in Italy. The standard of teaching and facilities are inducing to a most fruitful and rewarding learning experience. The perfect environment and the friendly atmosphere make it a place for a great holidays.

Mark Hewitt is born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, the son and grandson of Directors of Spode. He apprenticed with Michael Cardew and Todd Piker before moved to North Carolina, USA, in 1983, where he has become well-known for reconfiguring the North Carolina tradition to reflect contemporary culture. His pots are in many museums; he's exhibited widely, and written extensively in the ceramic press. Mark demonstrated at the International Ceramic Festival in Aberystwyth in 2011, and serves as Vice President of the North Carolina Pottery Center.

His intention is for participants to dramatically improve their throwing skills, so they can throw more, bigger, better pots - not at the expense of quality, but using technical fluency to enhance individual aesthetic explorations. Through one-on-one discussion of all aspects of making pottery, and hands-on assistance, each student will be guided towards their own artistic and practical goals.
